Read More and Write On! - Out of my Mind by Sharon Draper
Read More and Write On is a
new feature to the Smithtown Library’s Book Bites Blog. Children may submit a
book review, and it will appear on our blog! This allows kids to discover what
their peers are reading and try new books recommended by experts on what kids
like – other kids! Want to submit a book review? Pick up a form at your local branch's Children's Reference Desk!
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars
This book was awesome
because: it is about a girl named Melody, who has a photographic memory and cerebral
palsy, leaving her unable to walk or talk on her own. It is so interesting to read
all the things Melody thinks, but is unable to say.

Delicious Dirt!
Let's hear it for Delicious Dirt! Don't let the rocks and worms fool you, this dirt is delectable! To kick-off the start of a beautiful weekend, we filled planters with cookies, chocolates, pudding and candy. Although some projects barely made it to the door, everyone enjoyed their tasty masterpiece!
Can't get enough of the outdoors? Try some of these books about gardening and creepy crawlies!

May the Fourth be With You!
May the Fourth be With You |
In a galaxy far, far away at the Nesconset Branch of the Smithtown Library, a celebration
of intergalactic proportions took place for May the Fourth, the officially unofficial Star Wars Holiday! Children in first through third
grade played WAMPA, a game from the planet Hoth, similar to Bingo, created
space slime, Wookie puppets and enjoyed refreshments such as Yoda Soda and Jedi
Master Cakes (cupcakes that looked like Yoda!).
Couldn’t make it to our
celebration? No worries, keep the force with you with the Clone Wars graphic
novels! See everyone in their Jedi attire on our flickr page!
